Winter Wonderland

We finally got around to asking Cathy, Benjamin's mom, to send us the pictures from an awesome visit we had just before Thanksgiving! So here it is:

Benjamin's Grandpa, Grandpa Art, wanted to see all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren again, as well as visit his family in Oklahoma where he grew up. So Cathy talked him into letting her take him on a 4,000 mile road trip around the United States! We were the last stop before their crazy drive home. They only stayed about 1 1/2-2 days at each stop, enjoying the time and then moving on. We got to spend time with them and they got to play with Haley. It was awesome to see family again (since we don't have any around anymore) and to have our dishes done by someone else! Cathy took all of the pictures so she isn't in any of them, but this is awesome Grandpa Art. We are so glad they came.

After Thanksgiving, we decorated our Christmas tree together. It was so fun to listen to music and spend time together. Haley LOVED to help. We now spend quite a great deal of time playing with how funny our faces look in the shiny glass balls. Laura loves the smell of Christmas trees so she is teaching Haley how to do it too. Haley likes it even though just about every time she ends up sticking the branches UP her nose!
Since our last post we also took a trip to meet Santa. Haley is very talkative to everyone she meets in the grocery store but has a bit of stranger anxiety with men. We got her as ready as she could be to meet him by watching "Elmo Saves Christmas" and explaining that Santa is Elmo's friend. She was excited to see him...

...until Laura tried to hand her to him! She latched on to Laura and wouldn't let go. But she really liked Santa when Laura was holding her. He gave her crayons and a Christmas coloring book which has occupied her for days. We took it with Laura's cell phone so it is a little blurry---testament to the freak out situation in progress.

She even got out a "thank you" when he wasn't holding her anymore...
Haley has been looking more beautiful by the day. Her hair is growing quickly (thank goodness!!!) and we have been doing her hair more. Here she is after going to see Santa with the family. Laura was excited to go out with Benjamin and Haley so she got Haley all ready to hit the town!

We also love this picture of Haley having a melt down sitting on a giant tortoise while trying to wait for Santa. She thought it was cool until we made her sit on it and let go of her.

We are in the middle of an "EPIC" (the news said anyway...) storm right now. So far we have had beautiful weather, then it got cold for maybe a week, and now we have "the worst storm in more than thirty years". It is supposed to drop to about 11*F tonight. Tomorrow the high is supposed to be 11*F and the low is somewhere around -4*. We will see! Poor Haley is going to be so stir-crazy... Not to mention her parents! Rufus is LOVING the snow though. He runs around like Christmas morning several times a day. Here are some pictures of our backyard a few minutes ago. Check out how high the snow on the chair is. Don't forget that it is sitting under a tree. Just to give you an idea: Laura has shoveled TWICE, and Benjamin came home this afternoon. The car looks abandoned!

Love your freezing friends and family,
Benjamin, Laura, Haley and Rufus
