WE MADE A SNOWMAN!

Most of you know that Laura is from San Diego and had never really seen snow until she moved to Rexburg to begin school. That was quite the eye-opener!

Well, thanks to Benjamin, Laura can now cross another life experience off of her list that she couldn't before... Benjamin taught Laura how to build a snowman! Here is how it went...

1. Make a big snowball in your hands that is as round as possible.
2. Throw it into some new snow and begin rolling it around. It automatically sticks to the edges and picks up more snow. This has to managed carefully for a few reasons. If you continually roll it in the same direction, you end up with a cylinder. This is a problem because as we all know, snowmen have round bodies. Also, yuo should not continually compact the sides. This makes it extremely heavy when you have to pick up the second ball to put it on the bottom ball(SORRY BENJAMIN) and harder to shape later on. Shaping is a very important part of the process.
3. Once you have one really big ball, you make a medium sized ball that you have to pick up and put on top of the first one. Then one person holds the middle and the other uses new snow to secure it in place. Then you begin working on shaping the ball to look more round. We had quite a few transplants after Laura destroyed parts... oops.
4. Then you make a slightly smaller ball for the head. After doing the same process that you did on the other two, you have to decorate it.
5. Finding things to decorate the snowman with can be quite a problem. Finally we found some huge poles for arms, a pipe for his nose(we ate all of our carrots the night before), and a big chainlink thing for the buttons on his shirt. We ended up using charcoal briquettes for his eyes and mouth.

You may be thinking, "HA! I CAN DO THAT!" but it takes a real artist to make it a good one. After 3 tries on placing the mouth in such a way that the smile was not a creepy smirk but a jolly grin, we were done. We have not found the perfect hat yet; he will have to be cold for the time being.

One of the best parts of doing this was getting to spend the time together. Rufus kept stealing all of our snowballs at the beginning and trying to climb up on the snowman after he was finished. We both had a great time doing something together. Plus, we feel good because we know that all of those people driving by our house will love to have that warm hello as they drive past our front yard!

To add friends:

-Sign in to your account
-Click "layout" on your dashboard
-On your left hand column click "add page element"
-Click on "link list"
-All you have to do is type in the site URL (for example: coryandheather.blogspot.com) and then on the next line ("new site name") type in whatever you want to call it (for example: Cory and Heather Bird)
-Then if you want to, you can change the title to whatever you want. I chose to say friends, but you can title it whatever.

Hope that helps. If not let me know. I've been doing this forever and sometimes forget that it can be kind of tricky!
